  • Is the Natural Stress Relief© technique related to TM® meditation?

    No. While NSR© was created by R. Harrison, a former TM® teacher, and developed with F. Coppola, a TM® practitioner since 1983, the Natural Stress Relief© technique is somewhat nevertheless different from TM®: NSR© is a single-mantra-for-all meditation, while TM® is based on personalized mantras. The two are different procedures or methods of deep, life-transforming meditation, both coming from vedic tradition. NSR achieves remarkable results, and is a lower-cost alternative to TM®.   • What about the "personal mantra"?

    The Natural Stress Relief Technique (NSR)© is based on a single basic syllable or Ďmantraí that is suitable for anybody, which is different from the personalized mantras currently used by TM®.   • The first session went well with the audio, experiencing body tingling and movement, but the second session without audio had no body sensations and more interference with internal thoughts and outside noise. Am I doing wrong?

    The effects you may feel during the practice can be different from time to time. The results you are getting without the audio file are still valid and normal. If you think that the sessions you made with the audio file are more powerful, you can do so sometimes, when you want (however, this will take a longer time).

  • I just experienced my first session with the learn audio. I experienced weird sensations in my brain that I have never experienced before... They felt like sort of a massage maybe... What is happening to my brain to cause this feeling?

    There are several effects that you may feel (during a session) in the brain, in the nervous system, or even in muscles. This is different for different persons and it is different from time to time. The effect you report is probably due to release of tensions. After effects like these, you probably feel better during your daily life.

  • My golf game has improved considerably since using this technique. I play especially well if I play directly after I do a session. However, after a few holes this state wears off and I get slightly more tense and worse. There is a lot of time in between shots, and I was wondering if I may use the syllable as I am walking in between shots.

    It is not recommended you practice this technique while walking! If you have enough time, try to do short session (5 minutes), of course while sitting with your eyes closed. Otherwise, you may do simple "pranayama" exercises (respiration) that you can learn for free on the Internet or anywhere.

  • The recommended time spend is 2 times per day for about 10 or 15 minutes each. Is it more beneficial to practice 3-4 times per day, or even more than 3-4 times per day?

    It is not recommended to practice this technique too much, since it may cause a mental state that may be too far away from the normal awake state that is needed for daily life. In scientific terms, the brain tends to stay too much on the low Alpha waves (around 9 Hertz) rather than on the Beta waves (around 20 Hertz or more) that is needed in daily life. When you are in vacation/holiday, you may practise the technique 3 or even 4 times a day. The same applies if you happen to be ill (however, illness should be rare if you practise this technique regularly).

  • Iíve started using your programme, second lesson this morning. I notice when Iím thinking my syllable that my tongue is trying to say it with me and Iím wondering if I should try using one of the other syllables that I read on the manual as I seem to action these in my mind easier without my tongue trying to move. Does it matter if I try either of these instead?

    There is not a remarkable difference between these syllables, as shown by our tests, even though TM teachers are trained to say that different mantras cause very different effects. The real difference between this technique and other meditation techniques is how the syllable is used... that is paradoxically simpler than most meditation techniques! This method achieves better results.

  • Iím looking forward to learning this and progressing through the sessions as I do have hight blood pressure and want to move away from using pharmacy pills as a option. Will I achieve good results?

    This is not the best field where this technique has shown to be effective, however there are often good results in this field, too.

  • May I know more about the downloadable Audio?

    The audio is a mp3 file, duration 4 minutes (22kHz, 16 bit, mono). Disk space: 1.0 MB. To download the audio file, when you are in the download page, right-click with your mouse and select "Save target as...". You need this audio for your personal instruction. It contains special sounds and a beautiful voice that will guide you. Listen to a very short sample of the audio. Read the Manual before listening to the entire audio file!

  • How do I make a CD from the audio file? I tried to burn a CD but it doesn't work.

    It is possible to make a CD (read below). However, you don't need an audio CD to learn the technique: the audio file is strictly needed one time only, that is for your personal instruction. However, it may be useful later, every 2 months or so, to check the correctness of your practice and to "refresh" your technique. So, if you want to make an audio CD, you have to convert the audio file (that is 22kHz, 16 bit, mono) to 44 kHz, 16 bit, stereo. This is a standard conversion that can be made by regular mp3 software, even free software such as the one you can find at (it's just an example).

  • How similar is your method to Chopraís Primordial Sound® meditation?

    There are different types of meditation. NSR© and PS® are somewhat different, but both are mantra meditation techniques with no breath control and their purpose is a unique state of the mind, consciously transcending all thoughts, which allows the mind and the nervous system to deeply rest and remove stress. They differ much from other types of meditation. In the NSR technique, a single "syllable" for everybody is given, instead of a personal "mantra". Our own syllable comes from yoga and vedic tradition.

  • I am interested in achieving a subtle level of thought and pure consciousness. Your program just advertises mental and physical health improvements, but is enlightenment a possible effect of your meditation technique?

    This is possible on the long run. Do a "silent" week-end every 2 or 3 months, with several long sessions (total time = twice the regular time) and yoga postures. If you do this together with other practitioners, it is even better.

  • After being made aware of the high costs of the other meditation techniques, your program seems to be the most beneficial. Are there other sources of information regarding your Natural Stress Relief program?

    Read the paper published by Psychological Reports, 101 (2007, p. 130-134) about significant reduction of trait anxiety caused by NSR, and the paper published by Social Behavior and Personality, 37(3) (2009, p. 307-312). New articles will be published on other peer-rewieved journals in the future. Also read our GSR and EEG research.
    At this time you can find most information in Italian, such as the original text about our EEG and GSR research.
